The Story of GirafPingvin

It was a Saturday morning back in 2021. A really cold winter morning ❄️ with snow on the windows, lit by candles 🕯️ and the smell of freshly brewed coffee ☕ filling my little home studio. It was one of those mornings where you can feel something truly special is about to happen ✨.

Ever since I was little, I've always called myself "The Penguin." 🐧 Both because I was fascinated by penguins, but also because I — unlike most others — didn't use Windows or Mac, but Linux on my computer 💻, whose logo is of course a penguin. I was a mega nerd 🤓 and I loved it! So my world was filled with penguins, and they followed me everywhere.

That Saturday morning in December 2021, when I decided to dive into TikTok 🎥, my usual username "Pingvinen" was unfortunately already taken. So I had to think fast and creatively! I looked at my favourite animals — giraffes 🦒 and penguins 🐧 — and thought: Why not merge them? The result was absolutely fantastic: girafpingvin! 🦒🐧 An animal that's both unique, quirky, cute and a little different — just like me.

This is the story of girafpingvin, and how this funny and crazy creature evolved from a simple idea and a hand-drawn sketch ✏️ into a cute character that has become a big part of me 🫶🏻🎨.

I was sitting with my warm cup of coffee ☕ in front of the computer, when I suddenly got an idea — an idea that would change everything. I opened my drawing program and started playing with shapes and colours. From my imagination I tried to merge two of my favourite animals: the majestic giraffe 🦒 and the cute penguin 🐧. And just like that, with a few clicks and a whole lot of nerdiness 🤓, the first version of girafpingvin was born.

I quickly realised that although girafpingvin was a unique and fun animal, it was missing a bit of magic ✨. I wanted girafpingvin to have the kind of magic that makes people smile just by seeing him.

Luckily I met Snarf (Frans), an amazing professional illustrator 🎨. He makes a living drawing and creating visual masterpieces. I showed him my little girafpingvin, and he instantly fell in love with the crazy idea 🤩. Frans took my simple sketch and transformed it into something truly magical — the first professional drawing of girafpingvin was born! 🦒🐧✨

At this point, I knew that girafpingvin had the potential to become something truly special. It was no longer just a funny idea, but a character that could bring joy to people 🌍. And it was only the beginning...

After exactly one year on TikTok, where I had gained 14,000 followers and over 4 million Danish views 🎉, I decided to shift focus. My everyday went from making fun and entertaining content, to now focusing on my new AI startup, Senbee.com 💻🤖. It was time to step back a bit and channel my energy into my new company!

But something was missing. I missed girafpingvin 🦒🐧 and the amazing community we had built together. That year on TikTok gave me many new friends — both other creators and fans, who I'm still in touch with to this day. But slowly the entire fun world faded, as I threw myself fully into my AI adventure.

After about a year without girafpingvin, I could feel that something had to change. So in October 2023 I returned to the spotlight 🎥 — this time on YouTube! I set a goal to dedicate one day a week to creating fun content and the rest to work. With that new mindset, we built a brand new community together from 0 🚀.

It has been an amazing and educational journey, filled with laughter, creativity and community 🤩. And I love it! That's what matters most ❤️.

It was time to go all-in on girafpingvin 🦒🐧. Together with Lisa, an amazing children's book illustrator 🎨, we spent an entire weekend with paper, colours and loads of iced coffee ☕. We drew and drew, sketched and refined, until he was finally there! Girafpingvin, exactly as I had always imagined him — a bit clumsy, a bit crazy, a bit goofy 🤪, but absolutely adorable 🥰!

It was a magical experience to see him come to life. From my original ideas back in 2021 until now — girafpingvin was no longer just a drawing, but a real character 💫. Say hello to girafpingvin! 👋
